To Reach Us By Land
- From San Francisco: We are a good day's drive north of the City. You can take Hwy 101 north through the scenic coast and redwoods. We are 17 miles north of Crescent City on US Highway 101. Or you can take Interstate 5 north to Medford and Grants Pass.
Note, there are several routes that cross over the North-South running Coastal Mountain Range from the central valleys. There are significant mountain passes from Shasta Mountain into Oregon until the Ashland - Medford - Grants Pass valley. Using US 101 is about the same driving time as using Interstate 5. From about Hopland south, there are no stop lights. In winter, the coastal route is usually warmer and gets rain instead of snow.
- From Portland: We are a good day's drive south of Portland. You can take Hwy 101 south along the scenic Oregon coast. We are 30 miles South of Gold Beach on US Highway 101. Or you can drive Interstate 5 south to Grants Pass.
There are few State or Forest Service roads west between Interstate 5 and the coastal cities. In winter, these may not be suitable and you should be equipped to travel them with four wheel drive, fuel, water, food, GPS equipment, maps and communication equipment.
- From Grants Pass: We are 100 miles west of Grants Pass. Take US 199 from Grants Pass to the SR 197 along the Smith River to Hwy 101. Then drive north and we are one mile north of the California - Oregon border. If you have the time, you can also drive a scenic mountain road along the Rogue River to Gold Beach (open only in summer) and then drive south along the 101.
There are also other Forest Service roads between Grants Pass and Brookings, but these are not recommended due to the possibility of gates being locked.
