Moosehead Lodgefamily vacation rental home in Brookings, Oregonon the California-Oregon border of the Pacific Ocean
Our pet friendly vacation rental home is located on the California - Oregon border midway between San Francisco and Portland on the coast. Just off Hwy 101, a 10 minute walk through our neighborhood takes you to the Winchuck River and a local public access path gets you onto the beach ... tides, driftwood and river height permitting. Brookings is a small relaxed coastal town with a harbor and miles of uncrowded scenic beaches for beach walking, tide pooling and kite flying. Our harbor offers ocean fishing trips and the Siskiyou forest, only a few miles away, provides plenty of mountain biking and hiking. We are a great place to stay for family reunions, group retreats and extended family vacations, since we can sleep up to 12 people in the Lodge and 4 more in our Annex next door. The Moosehead Lodge is also a great place to come for family fishing trips -- the Winchuck, Chetco, and Smith Rivers are all within 5 miles of our door. After a day walking on Winchuck Beach, hiking in the local Siskiyou mountains or biking around Brookings Harbor -- come and relax, BBQ the catch of the day in the backyard and enjoy an evening picnic under the stars.
** Instructions For Getting To The Beach: (see map) From the Moosehead, you can walk down Kemlin Place and then take Wollam Road as it curves through a residential neighborhood -- about a 10 minute walk. Then follow the unmarked grassy public access trail to a rocky stairway that leads you down onto the Estuary where the Winchuck River meets the Pacific Ocean. From there, the ocean is about a 300 foot walk along the sandy riverbank of the Winchuck River ... tides, driftwood and river height permitting. Winchuck Beach offers 5 miles of scenic and uncrowded beach walking along the Pacific Ocean. Oregon State Beach Access: (see map) You can also access the Winchuck River and ocean by walking to the entrance of the Winchuck State Recreation Site -- about a 10 minute walk. From Kemlin Place, go east along Itzen and follow it as it turns into gravel and curves north. Turn onto No Name Street and use the short unmarked grassy path to enter the State Recreation Site. At the bottom of the gravel parking area is a grassy path that leads to the Winchuck River bank. Walk another 500 feet along the river bank and you are at the ocean ... tides, driftwood and river height permitting. Winchuck Beach offers 5 miles of scenic and uncrowded beach walking north along the Pacific Ocean. Pelican State Beach Access: (see map) If you want more beach access, you can drive 2 miles south to California Pelican State Beach, located 100 feet on the right after you pass the California Inspection Station. Open sunrise to sunset -- it offers more scenic beach walking along the Pacific Ocean and southern riverbank of the Winchuck River at no charge. Park at the end just before the turnaround loop and the beach access is on your left -- about a 30 foot walk to the sand and another 50 feet to the surf. |
